Severe wear on the excavator's hydraulic pump can have a devastating impact on the machine, so any such issue must be addressed promptly. When repairing an excavator's hydraulic pump, identify the root cause of the failure by focusing on the following three key areas:
1. Check for internal leakage in the boom cylinder
The simplest method is to raise the boom and observe whether it exhibits any noticeable free fall. If there’s a clear downward movement, disassemble the cylinder for inspection; if the seals are worn, they should be replaced.
2. Inspect the control valve
First, clean the safety valve and inspect the valve core for wear; if worn, it should be replaced. If there is still no change after installing the safety valve, proceed to check the wear condition of the control valve core. The typical allowable clearance for this core is 0.06 mm—if wear exceeds this limit, the core must be replaced.
3. Measuring the pressure of the hydraulic pump
If the pressure is too low, make adjustments; if increasing the pressure still fails to resolve the issue, it indicates that the hydraulic pump is severely worn.
